Immediate Steps (First 24 Hours)

Here's a general timeline of what you can expect in the first 24 hours after a DUI arrest in Stephens County:

• Arrest and Transport: You'll be taken into custody by a law enforcement officer, likely from the Stephens County Sheriff's Office, and transported to the Stephens County Detention Center.
• Booking: At the detention center, you'll undergo the booking process. This includes fingerprinting, photographing (mugshot), and recording your personal information.
• Phone Calls: After booking, you will generally be allowed to make a phone call. This is a critical opportunity to contact a family member, friend, or attorney.
• Bail: Bail will be set according to the charges. Bail is a financial guarantee that you will appear for all scheduled court dates.
• Release: Once bail is posted, you'll be released from custody pending your court dates. The processing time for release can take 2-4 hours.

Critical Deadlines

Missing deadlines can have severe consequences in a DUI case. Here are the most important deadlines to be aware of:

• ALR Hearing Request: You have only 15 days from the date of your arrest to request an Administrative License Revocation (ALR) hearing with the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). Failure to do so will result in an automatic suspension of your driver's license.
• Court Appearance Date: The date, time, and location of your first court appearance will be specified on your release paperwork. Arriving late or missing this date can lead to serious penalties.
• License Suspension: If you do not request an ALR hearing or if the hearing officer rules against you, your license suspension will begin. The length of the suspension depends on the circumstances of your case.
