Jeff Davis County DUI Guide

A DUI arrest in Jeff Davis County initiates a complex legal process with immediate consequences. This guide provides a roadmap to navigate the crucial steps after your arrest, from understanding bail procedures to protecting your driving privileges.

What Happens After a DUI Arrest in Jeff Davis County

Following a DUI arrest in Jeff Davis County, you will be taken into custody by law enforcement. You face two separate but related proceedings: a criminal case in the Jeff Davis County court system and an administrative license suspension handled by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). This guide outlines the immediate steps, critical deadlines, and available resources to help you manage both.

Immediate Steps (First 24 Hours)

The first 24 hours after a DUI arrest are critical. Here's a general timeline:

• Arrest and Booking: You'll be transported to the Jeff Davis County Jail located at 4 S Williams St, Hazlehurst, GA 31539, phone (912) 375-6604, for booking.
• Booking Process: This involves fingerprinting, photographing, and recording your personal information.
• Phone Calls: You will be allowed to make phone calls, typically after the booking process is complete. Use this opportunity to contact a family member, friend, or a DUI attorney.
• Bail: Bail is set to ensure your appearance in court. For a first DUI offense, expect a bail amount ranging from $500 to $2,500. You can post bail in cash at the Jeff Davis County Jail or through a bail bondsman.
• Release: After posting bail, it can take between 2 to 6 hours for processing and release from the Jeff Davis County Jail.

Critical Deadlines

Missing these deadlines can severely impact your case:

• ALR Hearing Request: You have only 15 DAYS from the date of your arrest to request an Administrative License Revocation (ALR) hearing with the Georgia DDS. Failure to request a hearing within this timeframe will result in an automatic suspension of your driver's license.
• Court Appearance Dates: Your court date will be set by the Jeff Davis County court system. The date will be on your release paperwork. Missing your court date will result in a warrant for your arrest.
