Immediate Steps (First 24 Hours)

The first 24 hours after a DUI arrest are critical. Here's a timeline of what typically happens:

• Arrest and Initial Stop: Following the initial traffic stop and field sobriety tests (if administered), if the officer has probable cause, you will be arrested for DUI.
• Transportation to Crawford County Jail: You will be transported to the Crawford County Jail located at 302 GA-42, Knoxville, GA 31050.
• Booking Process: At the jail, you will be processed. This includes fingerprinting, photographing, and recording your personal information.
• Phone Calls: You will generally be allowed to make a phone call shortly after booking. Use this opportunity to contact a loved one or a qualified attorney.
• Bail Hearing: A bail amount will be set, generally based on a predetermined bail schedule.
• Release: Once bail is posted (either in cash, via a bail bondsman, or through a property bond), you will be released with a court date.

Critical Deadlines

Missing deadlines can have severe consequences. Be aware of these important dates:

• ALR Hearing Request: You have only 15 days from the date of your arrest to request an Administrative License Suspension (ALS) hearing with the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). This hearing is separate from your criminal case and determines whether your driver's license will be suspended. Failing to request this hearing within 15 days will result in an automatic license suspension.
• Court Appearance Date: The date, time, and location of your first court appearance (arraignment) will be listed on your citation. Missing this date will result in a warrant for your arrest.
