What the tariff actually allows
A police tow is a non-consensual tow, capped by Georgia's Maximum Rate Tariff No. 5. The base removal fee is $175, and that number is all-inclusive: a yard cannot add line items for dollies, trailers, lifts, or slim jims. No storage is charged for the first 24 hours, and none is charged for days the lot was closed to the public. Standard-vehicle storage after that is about $30 a day. An after-hours retrieval fee is capped at $65. Blanket "administrative fees" are not legal. The only legitimate add-ons are things like a window wrap or winching if the car actually needed it.
They have to take cash, a money order, or a certified check without a surcharge. If you pick the car up the same day as the arrest, you should pay the base fee and nothing more.
Getting it released
Your license was taken at the arrest, so you cannot drive the car off the lot yourself. Come with the yellow Form 1205, proof of insurance, and proof of ownership, and bring a second person who has a valid license to drive the car away.
Disputing the tow or the bill
File in the Bryan County Magistrate Court at 51 North Courthouse Street in Pembroke. It handles civil claims up to $15,000 and is a faster, less formal venue for fee disputes. Appeals of a Magistrate decision are due within 30 days.
